Luke 10:25-37 | Where Does Your Moral Outrage Come From?
Jun 21, 2020 • Rick Hardison
What does the Good Samaritan teach us about loving our neighbors—and about the source of right and wrong? In Luke 10:25–37, Jesus makes a hated Samaritan the unlikely hero who sacrificially cares for a wounded Jewish stranger, demonstrating that neighbor-love crosses ethnic, religious, and social boundaries. But this sermon goes beyond the familiar lesson by asking where our sense of justice and moral outrage comes from. Because societies and individuals disagree about morality, we need a standard beyond personal preference or popular opinion. Jesus connects loving our neighbor with loving God, grounding our obligation to care for others in the character and commands of the God who made us.
