Ezra 4:1-5 | Destructive Partnerships
Not every threat to the church looks like an enemy. In Ezra 4:1–5, the adversaries of God’s people approach with an offer to help rebuild the temple, claiming to worship the same God. Israel’s leaders recognize the danger and refuse the partnership. This sermon explores a recurring biblical strategy of the enemy: opposing God’s work by appearing religious, helpful, and aligned with God’s people. From the serpent in Eden to false teachers in the church, spiritual deception often comes disguised as truth. Christians therefore need discernment, especially when cultural ideas are combined with Christian language. Rather than reshaping Christianity to fit contemporary values, believers are called to know Scripture, guard the truth, and learn about Jesus from the source.
