Revelation 2:12-17 | Pergamum: Compromise

Jul 13, 2025  •  Rick Hardison

It’s possible to remain faithful to Jesus in obvious ways while quietly compromising in others. In Revelation 2:12–17, Jesus confronts the church at Pergamum—a congregation that held firmly to His name even in the face of persecution, yet tolerated sinful compromise within their community. This message explores how compromise often enters through the “side door,” why past faithfulness doesn’t guarantee future obedience, and why Christians are called to live in the world without becoming like it. Jesus calls His church to repent and resist the temptation to look elsewhere for satisfaction, provision, and intimacy. Ultimately, the answer to compromise is confidence in Christ and His promises, trusting that the greatest reward He gives His people is Himself.
