Matthew 5:1-3 | Jesus is the True Israel

Why does the life of Jesus seem to retrace Israel’s story? From Egypt, through the water and wilderness, and finally up a mountain to give God’s law, Matthew presents Jesus as the true and better Israel. This sermon explores these remarkable parallels and explains why they matter for Christians today. Where Israel repeatedly failed, Jesus perfectly obeyed—and those who are “in Christ” share in His righteousness and the promises of God. That gives hope to anyone weary of repeated failure: our standing with God ultimately rests on Christ’s faithfulness, not ours. It also transforms how we read the Old Testament, reminding us that Jews and Gentiles who trust in Jesus belong together as one people of God and heirs of His promises.
