Matthew 5:21-26 | Dealing with Anger

Feb 19, 2023  •  Rick Hardison

What does our anger reveal about our hearts, and how should Christians respond when it takes hold? In Matthew 5:21–26, Jesus compares sinful anger to murder, confronting us with its seriousness and consequences. This sermon offers practical wisdom for dealing with anger: examine it before emotions run high, recognize what it reveals about our deepest desires, take insults seriously, pursue reconciliation quickly, and resist the temptation to vent to the wrong people. Jesus calls us to prioritize restored relationships rather than allowing resentment to grow. Yet because anger is a struggle none of us perfectly conquers, our ultimate hope is not better anger management. It is Jesus, who offers forgiveness to angry people who recognize their guilt and turn to Him.
