Matthew 22:41-46 | David's Lord and Hope for Missions
Dec 8, 2024 • Rick Hardison
Why can Christians have confidence in the mission of making disciples throughout the world? In Matthew 22:41–46, Jesus uses Psalm 110 to reveal that the Messiah is far more than David’s descendant—He is David’s Lord, the divine King seated at the Father’s right hand. Through His resurrection and ascension, Jesus is already reigning, and God is bringing His enemies into submission to Him. This promise gives Christians confidence in global missions: the Great Commission is not an uncertain cause because God has promised to accomplish His purposes. As people move from unbelief to faith in Christ, we see His kingdom advancing—giving believers every reason to participate generously and sacrificially in taking the gospel to the nations.
