Matthew 19:13-22 | Christ's Delayed and Imminent Return

What does it mean to truly come to Jesus? In Matthew 19:13–22, two encounters reveal a striking contrast. Children come to Christ humbly and are warmly welcomed, reminding us that Jesus genuinely cares for children and that even the young can faithfully follow Him. The rich young ruler, however, approaches Jesus confident in his obedience, only to have Christ expose the one area of his life he refuses to surrender: his possessions. His story warns that it is possible to know much about Jesus, desire eternal life, and still walk away. The kingdom belongs not to those confident in their own goodness, but to those who come like children—humble, dependent, and ready to follow Christ wherever He leads.
