Matthew 21:1-22 | Jesus: Our Prophet, Priest, and King

Who is Jesus, and why does His identity matter? In Matthew 21:1–22, Jesus enters Jerusalem during the most significant week of His earthly ministry and reveals Himself as the ultimate King, Priest, and Prophet. He rides into the city as the promised, peaceful King, then enters the temple with the authority of the true High Priest. Through the cursing of the fig tree, Jesus also acts as the ultimate Prophet, exposing empty religion and announcing coming judgment. These three roles come together perfectly in Christ: He reveals God’s truth, provides the answer to our separation from God, and rules His people. Jesus is the Prophet we should hear, the Priest we need, and the King we should follow.
